The cautious stance taken by odds-makers on the under 2.5 goal lines in the round of 16 proved unjustified. To a level stake, backing the over 2.5 goal line in the first eight knock out matches would have returned a profit with half of the games finishing with 3 or more goals.
That has not stopped them running scared of the under in the first of the quarter finals and the main bench-mark has been dropped to 1.5-2 for Poland’s clash with Portugal in Marseille. That is just too tempting to pass up even allowing for the fact that seven of the eight games involving either of these sides in France have produced two or fewer.
Despite getting my fingers burnt when Croatia and Portugal produced the worst game of football of the tournament so far, (and that has been a competitive race in itself), I am far more comfortable watching a game of football featuring Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski welcoming goals rather than fearing them.
Lewandowski has now gone six games without a goal and it is FIVE years since that last happened. It is a streak which surely has to crack sooner rather than later. Six of the eight round of 16 games featured a first half goal and if we can get one here the 1.5-2 line will surely be breached. With an early goal the game will simply have to open up and as the last three minutes of Portugal’s extra time victory against Croatia proved, chances will materialize.
#BestBets – Poland vs Portugal = OVER 1.5-2 GOALS
