Frank Bernhardt wants more exposure for U22 squad

National Under-22 head coach Frank Bernhardt has admitted that he is satisfied with the level of performance from his team despite not picking a win from the two matches in Japan.

The Project SEA Games squad played out an inspiring 3-3 draw against Machida Zelvia last Monday before falling to a 1-0 defeat to J1 League team Shonan Bellmarel two days ago.

“We conceded through a penalty and after viewing the replay during the post-match analysis, the ball did not even hit the player’s hand,” Frank Bernhardt said as quoted by Sinar Harian.

“However, we gained our rhythm in the second half but were unfortunate not to score a goal.

“All in all, we are pleased to know that we are capable of challenging a J1 League team.

The 46 year-old German wants his players to gain more exposure in the coming months.

“The friendly matches allowed the boys to learn and also gain valuable experience because the quality of the teams are definitely higher than the teams in Malaysia,” he concluded.

The national team left to Chiba, Japan on June 10 and will be back home on June 28.
