National badminton player Datuk Lee Chong Wei has admitted that it will be even harder to defeat long-time rival Lin Dan at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this August.
He climbed to the top of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) world rankings last week and said that the world number three is more dangerous than his compatriot Chen Long.
“They (Lin Dan and Chen Long) are both difficult, but Lin Dan is harder to bring down because of his experience in the game. We cannot underestimate them because they were eliminated from the recent Super Series competitions,” Lee Chong Wei said as quoted by Sinar Harian.
“You can always win another Super Series if you fail to win it first, but the Olympic Games are only once every four years, so it comes down to mental strength and who wants it more.
Lee Chong Wei will be taking part in his fourth Olympics after making his mark in 2004 and will have to be on his toes for others who can pose a threat to his gold medal challenge.
“I cannot the the other opponents such as Jan O Jorgensen, Viktor Axelsen, Srikanth Kidambi, Tommy Sugiarto and many more lightly so I must be prepared from the first round.
“I have two months left to prepare so I must get in the best mental and physical shape.”
The others that will be taking part in the Olympic Games are Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei and Tee Jing Yi.
