The experience of playing in several major tournaments such as the Asia Team Championships (Uber Cup qualifiers), Uber Cup and the first Super Series in the Australia Open is hoped to be helpful for the development of national women’s singles player, Goh Jin Wei.
Jin Wei only managed to get a bronze medal in the Asian Junior Championships last year and she is hoping her third appearance in this competition will spur her to get a better result, with the advancement to the final being a minimal target.
According to the Penangite shuttler, she don’t want to give herself too much pressure in achieving her personal goals.
“I can’t undermine the abilities of other players, especially those from China, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia,” said the world junior champion when she was contacted by Harian Metro.
She would also like to help the team to achieve better results, but it can only be done if all the members have great teamwork.
“It will be tough to face China and Indonesia in the team event, but we’ll try to spring an upset if we are drawn against them,” said the 16-year-old shuttler.
Jin Wei only managed to reach the 2nd round of this tournament when she made her debut appearance, back when she was 14.
The Asia Youth Championships will be held in Bangkok from the 9th till the 17th of July. Last year’s edition has seen China made a clean sweep in all categories for the singles event and mixed team events.
