Rafael Nadal underwent successful surgery to remove his appendix yesterday, and is expected to leave the hospital within the next 24 hours.
The world number three made an announcement late last month, confirming that he would not play again this year, as he required an operation.
The Spaniard has only played seven matches since Wimbledon, and began taking antibiotics last month to treat his appendicitis.
“Everything went great. Thank you very much for your support. Big hug!” said the 28 year old on his official Facebook page shortly after the surgery.
Nadal will not take part in the ATP World Tour Finals, which kicks off at the O2 Arena in London this Sunday, but aims to return to the sport in time for the World Tennis Championship exhibition event in Abu Dhabi early next year.
