The national badminton squad have a good chance of winning the Thomas Cup but must implement the best strategy to win the prestigious trophy, which they last won in 1992.
Malaysian badminton legend Datuk Misbun Sidek has said that the country always finish as the top four best teams and their hopes of winning the tournament in China can be realized.
“We will not win if we solely depend on Datuk Lee Chong Wei to win the points. We just need two more points and the rest must step up,” he said as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.
“China have always threatened our hopes of winning because they have a huge squad depth.
Malaysia have won the Thomas Cup five times (1949, 1952, 1955, 1967, 1992) and were the runners-up in the last edition in 2014 when they lost 3-2 to Japan in New Delhi, India.
Two-time Olympic silver medallist will captain the Thomas Cup squad alongside the likes of Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Chong Wei Feng and Goh Soon Huat in Kunshan, China.
