If Riyad Mahrez winning the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year Award (POTY) wasn’t enough for Leicester City, then the joy is doubled with Jamie Vardy, who has also bagged an award for his sensational performances this year.
Ladies and gents, the 29-year old England striker has been named the Footballers Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year for 2015/2016, beating fellow teammates Danny Drinkwater, Kasper Schmeichel, Wes Morgan, Danny Simpson and POTY winner, Riyadh Mahrez.
“It’s a great honour to win such a prestigious award and to have my name added to a list of previous winners that includes some unbelievable players. Thank you to the Football Writers’ Association and to everyone that voted,” Jamie Vardy told Sky Sports.
“Thank you, also, to my team-mates, who are the reason I’ve been able to achieve anything. It’s been an amazing season for all of us at Leicester, based on team-work, not individuals, which you can see in the voting,” he explained.
Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Dimitri Payet, Sergio Aguero, and Kevin de Bruyne were also nominated for the award.
The striker who was scored 22 goals in 36 appearances this season, will be presented with the prestigious award on the 12th of May.
