National racing driver Jazeman Jaafar became the first Asian racer to stand on podium of Blancpain Endurance Series after finishing in second place at the Monza Circuit yesterday.
The 23 year-old joined HTP Motorsport this season and drove the #84 AMG Mercedes GT3 sportscar alongside Germany’s Maximilian Buhk and Austria’s Dominik Baumann. The trio had an excellent start to the Endurance season after coming in pole position on Sunday evening, but were unfortunate enough to finish 0.341 seconds behind the race winners.
Garage 59’s Rob Bell, Shane Van Gisbergen and Côme Ledogar were the eventual winners of the Endurance race after edging the German team with their McLaren 650S GT3 sportscar.
“What a debut Endurance Series race for me. I did not expect to be holding a trophy in my first race, but it is such a great team, with two very good teammates, that I’m learning from and really enjoying using their experience,” Jazeman Jaafar said on his official website.
“I’m disappointed that I lost time in the pit lane, but when I switched off the pit limiter, the car stalled, so I had to restart it. On track, I kept getting so much traffic, it was a real learning curve driving in such a large field of cars, but I’m happy to have maintained my position and contribute to a very close finish and a fantastic start to the Endurance season.”
Jazeman Jaafar returns to the circuit for the second round of the Blancpain Sprint Series at Brands Hatch on May 8, before the Endurance Series at Silverstone a week later.
