Doping scandal doesn’t involve drug abuse – KJ

Khairy Jamaluddin rubbished claims of drug abuse being the premise of the doping scandal that has rocked the nation for the past one week or so.

A badminton athlete failed a doping test during the World Championship in Copenhagen and is currently awaiting results of the ‘B’ sample. Plenty of rumours has been circulating about potential reasons for the failure, but Khairy insisted that the athlete is definitely not a drug addict.

“The athlete is definitely not a drug addict. He didn’t inject heroin or consumed ecstacy,” the Malaysian Youth and Sports minister said. “This case involves a drug item called dexamethasone. It’s not your regular drug abuse case.

The B-sample re-test is likely to take place in Norway, somewhere between 4th and 5th of November, and Khairy is scheduled to meet the athlete for a discussion prior to his departure to Norway.

However, no official revelation regarding his identity was made.
