Datuk Ong Kim Swee was handed a KPI of bringing Malaysia to 140 in the FIFA rankings by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) when he signed on as Harimau Malaysia boss.
The situation became worse when Malaysia fell to an all-time low ranking of 174 yesterday. That meant that Harimau Malaysia is the 32nd best team out of 46 countries in Asia.
According to Malacca-born coach, he will work hard during training and instruct his players to make the most out of the international friendlies and the Asian Cup play-off to gain points.
“We have planned a number of friendlies and the boys must take their chances well. Apart from them and the Asian Cup play-off match against Timor-Leste, we will be able to collect points from the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup,” Ong Kim Swee said as quoted by Harian Metro.
“If we advance to the next round, we will have a lot more games to look forward to in 2017. To get to No. 140 takes a long a time but it is possible if we win the qualifying matches.
