World Junior Champion Goh Jin Wei was awarded the 2015 SAM100-Plus Best Young Athlete.
The 16 year-old won the award after creating history as the first female teenager to win the girls’ singles event at the 2015 World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru last year. She became the second youngest player to win gold after defeating Lee Ying Ying in the final.
“Her success at the World Junior Championships was enough for her to be the SAM100-Plus Best Young Athlete,” joint committee chairman Izahar Atan said as quoted by Harian Metro.
“She has all the time in the world to become one of the greatest in badminton history.”
The Penang-born player started playing badminton at the age of six with her father and he helped her to realize her talents under the guidance of former national coach Tan Beng Huat.
Goh Jin Wei recently returned home after defeating Fitriani Fitriani in the final of the Orleans International Challenge to claim her third senior title of her career earlier this week.
