Malacca United goalkeeper Marco Stefan Petrovski, who was struck by lightning during a training session at the Padang Sepulu yesterday evening, is currently in stable condition.
The 18 year-old, who is of an Australian and Serbian descent, was training with his President Cup team before the lightning strike rendered him unconscious. He was immediately transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Malacca Hospital.
“Stefan is currently under the observation of specialists and is reportedly in stable condition. We hope that all parties will be praying for his speedy recovery,” Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.
Stefan’s teammate, Muhd Afiq Azuan was brought into the emergency and trauma ward and he is currently conscious and in a stable state, but just traumatized after what happened.
Stefan Petrovski used to play for Sydney Olympic FC and then he moved to Malaysia and was naturalized as a Malaysian as his mother is a Sabahan whereas his father is Australian.
