Malaysian head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has sent a strong message to players within his national squad, claiming that they wouldn’t be a part of it in future, if they fail to perform for their respective teams in the Malaysia Super League.
Kim Swee’s inaugural match in charge of Malaysia took place last week, as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Saudi Arabia. But there were plenty of positives from the game, including the performances of young guns like Brendan Gan.
While the ex-Harimau Muda boss expressed his satisfaction with the current crop of players at his disposal, he was quick to point out that no one is guaranteed a spot in the national squad.
“However, the performance of these young players, especially in the league is very important. If they (core players) played well in the national team, but failed to excel in the league, they will not be selected,” Kim Swee told Bernama.
The Malaysian Tigers will be taking on Macau in a friendly match at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca tonight and Kim Swee confirmed that he’ll be ringing the changes for the game.
“In this team, not only 11 players can play as all players selected could play in the top eleven, this is our strategy to play according to our opponent’s strength,” he said.
