Three All England titles and most would think that it is more than enough but that is not the case for national badminton ace Lee Chong Wei.
The Malaysian shuttler feels that ‘three’ is insufficient and that an All England win is always sweet, irrespective of how many times you’ve won it.
Bidding for a fourth title next week in Birmingham, Chong Wei’s cites the All England as his favourite tournament and not to mention it is also the oldest championship in the badminton industry.
“The All England is my favourite tournament after the Olympics and World Championship and also, it is the oldest super series in the world. Even though I have won the championship for three times, I want to win again,” said Chong Wei as quoted from Sinar Harian.
“I will do my best to win the championship for the fourth time.”
The Malaysian top seed has won the All England championship in 2010, 2011 and 2014. Due to his doping scandal and suspension, he was unable to participate in last year’s edition.
“Last year I was disappointed because I could not play but let bygones be bygones. This year, I want to focus and secure the trophy.”
“In the preparation aspects, everything is fine, just that I caught a fever few days ago but that is not a big issue and I have fully recovered.”
Chong Wei is drawn to the bottom half and will be playing against India’s P Kashyap in the opening match. The chances of him advancing to the main draw and the semifinals are rather bright.
If Chong Wei successfully wins his first match, he will possibly meet Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen in the quarterfinals and Japanese young gun Kento Momota in the semifinals.
“I don’t want to think about my opponents too much. What’s important is that I focus on every match.”
“With the preparations so far, I am confident that I can perform well.”
“Even though I have a bright chance, I cannot underestimate other opponents.”
