Terengganu head coach Mike Mulvey admitted his surprise after he was given the responsibility of guiding The Turtles effective immediately because of the decision to ‘rest’ Ahmad Yusoff resulting from their poor performance in the league and the FA Cup.
However, the Manchester-born coach who has an Australian citizenship promised to be up for the challenge set by the Terengganu Football Association (PBSNT).
“I was definitely shocked to see Ahmad ‘rested’, but you have to always remember in football, a coach getting rested or sacked is normal,” Mike said as quoted by Berita Harian.
“In fact, I have experienced similar situations before. In the meantime, I will carry out the responsibility given to me to ensure that Terengganu go back to winning ways.”
The ex-Brisbane Roar and Sabah coach joined The Turtles as a technical director-cum-assistant coach this season, after leaving the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu last year.
On Tuesday, PBSNT announced the decision to ‘rest’ Ahmad Yusoff after losing 3-1 to PKNS in the the second round of the Superbest Power FA Cup on Saturday.
The 53-year old admitted that his first test as Terengganu head coach will be daunting when his side faces M-League champions Johor Darul Ta’azim (JDT) in Gong Badak this Saturday.
“I will use the time I have to form a team tactically capable of facing JDT.
“I hope the team will move on from the FA Cup exit and focus on the long league ahead of us. Other than that, I am counting on my boys to get a result out against JDT,” he added.
