All eleven nations of the South East Asian contingent, including Malaysia, will be given a span of three weeks till mid March to file their appeal for any additional events to be held at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
According to the President of the SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, most countries will be taking advantage of the appeal and as the more the events, the bigger their chances of winning becomes.
However, Tunku Imran, who is also the President for the Malaysian Olympic Council (MOM), stated that there will be a lot of implications affecting the host with the additions of events.
“Right now, there are a lot of talks regarding the additions of many events but what is important is that they need to file the appeal officially instead of talking about it,” said Tunku Imran as quoted from Harian Metro.
“For every additional event, there will be issues regarding the costs, additional officers, venue and transportation.”
He also stated that prior to this, all eleven countries have settled upon an agreement of 34 sports and 342 events and there were no signs of objection. Nevertheless, SEAGF will be holding a meeting by July 14 to discuss on the finalized decisions and list of events.
