Despite the huge ongoing commotion regarding the widespread of the Zika virus in South America, especially in Brazil, national shooter Johnathan Wong is not at all worried about taking part in the upcoming Rio Olympics this August.
The shooter, whom recently earned his ticket to the prestigious event, claimed that the spiral in Brazil is not a worrying factor upon his participation and stated that the Malaysian contingent would do their very best to monitor the development of the virus throughout their stay in Rio de Janeiro.
“I did not think about the Zika virus at all, there’s still a long time. I only have to be there by August. I might at well focus more on my training sessions,” said Johnathan as quoted from Utusan.
“It’s still to early to pull out from the event. Unless things get worse before I get there.”
Johnathan is currently preparing for the upcoming World Cup in Bangkok next March.
“I just started training again yesterday. My next competition is the World Cup in Bangkok.”
“I will try my best to achieve a positive result. ”
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin too recently stated that the contingent has no plans on withdrawing from the Olympics as well as it is too early to do so.
