The Uber Cup squad will be without Tee Jing Yi when they take part in the Badminton Asia Championship next week in India.
Jing Yi was forced to withdraw from the squad after suffering recurrent hamstring injuries.
However, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Technical Director Morten Frost Hansen is confident that Lim Yin Fun has the ability to fill in for Jing Yi.
“Obviously, it will disrupt preparations when you lose a player to injury, but Yin Fun is young and talented and I am sure that she will be able to step up and help her country,” he said according to Harian Metro.
“Yin Fun will have what it takes to perform at a higher level in the next two or three years,” he added after attending the team’s training session.
Lim Yin Fun will be joined by Goh Jin Wei and Lee Ying Ying in the women’s singles event, whereas the women’s doubles will feature Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei, Amelia Alicia-Soong Fie Cho and Lee Meng Yean-Low Juan Shen.
The Uber Cup squad leaves for Hyderabad tomorrow.
