Despite putting up young players in the squad for the upcoming Badminton Asia Team Championship (BATC) next month, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has reiterated that they will not regret their decision and in fact, they are confident that the juniors will be able to do the nation proud in the tournament.
The championship will be a qualifier for the Kunshan Thomas Cup and Uber Cup this May.
Deputy President of BAM, Tan Sri Mohamed Al Amin Abd Majid has high hopes of the nation advancing to the finals with the fresh talents equipped.
“We need to start focusing on the new players, we can’t solely depend on Lee Chong Wei. For very tournament, a lot of people keep saying we always send the same set of players. This time, we’ll b sending the younger players,” said Al Amin as quoted from Berita Harian.
“They are excited to show their skills, this is a starting point for them to create success. This exposure will give them confidence and could bring a challenge to the tournaments in the future.”
Meanwhile, he also announced that new council member Datuk William Toh An Wah has been selected as team manager for the BATC whereas BAM secretary Ng Chin Chai is appointed as team manager for the Rio Olympics this August.
