Johor DT have officially backed away from a deal to sign Selangor defender Azrif Nasrulhaq, before going on to release a public apology to the Red Giants.
As reported yesterday, the Southern Tigers were on the verge of pulling off a shocking deal to bring Azrif over to Larkin, though it now appears that they weren’t aware of the fact that the talented defender was still contractually obligated to Selangor.
In a statement released on the Johor Southern Tigers’ Facebook page, JDT said:”Regarding the issue with defender Mohd Azrif Nasrulhaq, one of our scouts was told that the club needed a player in his position.
“He identified the player and informed the club that the player was not contracted to any club. So, the club was surprised to learn that the player is actually still under contract at Selangor and that the scout did not do proper research on this player.
Following the revelation, JDT no longer wish to sign the player. In light of that, the service of the scout has been terminated with immediate effect for this misinformation.”
The Southern Tigers, who were being widely criticized by football fans across the country for trying to poach a player who was still tied to a club, went on to issue a public apology to Selangor for the entire fracas.
“To the management of Selangor, we respect you as a big and professional club. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement concluded.
