OFFICIAL: Ong Kim Swee announced as new Malaysian head coach

Football Association of Malaysia has confirmed the appointment of Datuk Ong Kim Swee as the new national team head coach, for the next two years.

The former U-23 boss was in the running alongside Robert Alberts as well as Bojan Hodak, but after months of consideration, Ong has been handed the job on a permanent basis.

Ong Kim Swee has been the interim head coach since Dollah Salleh resigned following Malaysia’s 10-0 defeat against UAE in September.

He helped Malaysia claim their first win of the year against Laos, before inspiring the team to an impressive win over Timor Leste as well.

“The task force that was appointed by FAM reviewed all the candidates thoroughly and they were all close as well. But at the end of the day, we decided that Datuk Ong Kim Swee would be the best option for the role,” FAM deputy president Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad said.
