Racing director of the McLaren Formula One racing team Éric Boullier has spoken of the nature of drivers his team needs to fulfill a long-term strategy commencing in 2015, according to an interview with the Formula One official website.
“I will not tell you much about this – just this much: we need a mix of experience and eagerness” the Frenchman expressed, when asked about a specific kind of driver McLaren may be looking for.
“In this time of recovery for McLaren I need a boost, so our driver line-up needs to be boosting the team’s morale and team’s determination to reach as quickly as possible the level where we should be” Boullier added.
Holding a current rank of 5th at 143 points – just 20 points ahead of Force India-Mercedes – McLaren are indeed undergoing a transitional period of sorts, one which Boullier believes requires a long-term strategy to handle.
“I always said that we are working on the strategy for the coming years – plural – which means we could take on a big name now, or even two big names for next year, or we could stay the same and go for a big name – or again two big names – for 2016” Boullier stated.
It is widely believed that Fernando Alonso could make a return to McLaren for a second time in 2015 after he departed in 2007 following a tough season for the team.
Ferrari and Alonso have yet to make any official announcements, however.
