National shuttler Chong Wei Feng is ever ready to fight his way to a slot in the Rio Olympics this year and is showing no lack in determination.
“I’ll fight till the very last drop of blood,” said Wei Feng as quoted from Harian Metro.
According to Wei Feng, the chances of escorting badminton ace Lee Chong Wei at the Olympics are quite slim but there is still a little hope as it depends on his performance in the upcoming tournaments.
“It has to depend on another three to four championships, including the Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold next week. I need to display my best performance in every championship so that I have a chance in qualifying.”
Currently, the 29 year-old is the fourth best Malaysian player according to the BWF World Ranking, trailing behind Chong Wei, Zulfadli Zulkiffli and 2015 National GP champion Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin.
Wei Feng would have to outplay both Zulfadli and Iskandar to climb up to the top two and at the same time he needs to rely on hope, to ensure a withdrawal from foreign players or foreign teams surpassing their quotas.
“I am determined, because this might be the last chance for me to enter the Olympics. After this, my age will be 33 during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.”
“I hope that I get to present a consistent performance in Penang. I’m also still not sure if this is my last year with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). After the Rio Olympics, I’ll be reviewing my offers.”
