Selected as the host for the 2018 Malaysian Games (SUKMA), Perak has made plans to refurbish all venues and facilities in a span of 18 months before the commencement of the Games.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd. Kadir claimed that the early start was to prevent any form of future delays like in the previous edition and to ensure that all venues are fully facilitated on time.
The Perak Stadium, which is the main venue for SUKMA, will be handed priority for the upgrade, then followed by the Indera Mula Stadium situated beside it. Whereas the Majlis Bandar Raya Ipoh (MBI) swimming pool will be rebuilt to an aquatic complex.
“The costs for upgrading the Perak Stadium will be approximately RM20 million whereas the construction of the aquatic complex will take about RM40 million,” said Dr. Zambry as quoted from Utusan.
“As the host, the state government is hoping for an allocation of funds through the grant from the federal government.”
“However if the grant is received later than expected, then we will have to result to other means because we don’t want to waste time in preparing the competition venues.”
Dr. Zambry also mentioned that the shooting range in Lahat may have to be relocated as the present site is not big enough.
