Srikanth claims Premier Badminton League triumph over LCW

National badminton ace Lee Chong Wei was shown the exit after being defeated by Indian powerhouse Kidambi Srikanth in the Premier Badminton League in Mumbai yesterday.

Representing Hyderabad Hunters, the Malaysian number one lost the first set 12-15 but managed to bounce back to secure a rubber set after winning the second set 15-6. However, luck was not on Chong Wei’s side as Srikanth ousted him in the ultimate set 7-15.

This is the first time Srikanth had ever manage to defeat Chong Wei in their past four meetings in other tournaments.

However, the Hunters won 3-2 overall against Bengalaru Hot Guns in the league and successfully claimed incentives worth US 1 million (RM4.3 million).

Meanwhile, Hoon Thien How and Lim Kim Wah – playing for Bengalaru Hot Guns- were defeated by Carsten Morgensen and Markis Kido in a rather intense match.

The Malaysian side took the lead after winning the first set 15-13 before losing 9-15 in the second set. The third set was closely won by their opponents 14-15.

The finals will commence on January 17 in New Delhi.
