Despite facing an internal battle with their seniors Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, Tan Wee Kiong has reassured everyone that he and his partner Goh V Shem are still friends with the pair and have no negative feelings towards one another.
“The battle to qualify in the Olympics did not tear us apart. We’re both representing Malaysia,” said Wee Kiong as quoted from Harian Metro.
“The battle between both pairs gives us a great motivation because our slot in the Olympics is not yet guaranteed.”
Wee Kiong also stated that his chemistry with V Shem is greatly improving, especially after their triumph in US and Mexico.
“Hopefully we can maintain the same performance because we can improve our game play. The problem now is that we lack consistency. At least we managed to end the year with a trophy.”
“Next year, it’s not only the Malaysian players that are struggling to qualify to the Olympics. I think players from China and Indonesia are also fighting for the slot.”
Wee Kiong and V Shem will be preparing to compete in the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold and Indian Open next month.
