Tough luck for national women’s doubles duo Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Soon Fie Cho as they were sent packing in the first round of the Mexico Open Grand Prix yesterday.
The pair, whom was aiming to gather more points to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics, were outplayed by Thailand’s Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai 14-21 and 15-21 within 35 minutes.
Coach Lim Pek Siah attributed their defeat to the lack of confidence they presented.
“I wouldn’t want to say I’m disappointed but that’s the harsh reality. They need to recover and get back into form in January. If not it will be too hard for them to qualify for the 12016 Rio Olympics,” said Pek Siah as quoted from Harian Metro.
On the other hand, men’s singles player Zulfadli Zulkiffli had made it into the third round of the tournament after ousting host player Humberto Aguirre Fajardo 21-1, 21-15 and will be facing Cuban Osleni Guerrero today.
