Newly-appointed Kelantan head coach K. Devan believes that his side has what it takes to be a real force in Malaysian football, next year.
The Red Warriors have struggled in various aspects over the last few years, with their ongoing financial crisis being the most notable one. As a result, their form on the pitch, has taken a major dive as well.
But Devan sees no reason as to why a revival is impossible – pointing out that their squad is good enough and should be a force to be reckoned with, in 2016.
“On paper, I think we have an exceptional bunch of local players. When I arrived, the squad was already 70-80% complete,” he told Sinar Harian.
“I believe Kelantan can bounce back next year because we have quality players, our fanbase is significantly strong and we’ve won plenty of trophies in the past.
“If everyone maintains their discipline, and remain committed, it’s not impossible for us to do well in 2016,” he added.
WHAT DO WE THINK?
K. Devan is doing what he’s supposed to do – getting the players motivated. But is the Kelantan squad really capable of challenging for honours next year? Maybe. But the bigger concern here is the squad morale. Most of the players have not been paid for the last three months and that will inevitably eat into their motivation as well. Some of their foreign players are not happy either, so that’s another issue. Look at the top three teams in the Super League. Pahang and JDT were filled with quality and individual brilliance. Selangor on the other hand, were all about teamwork. Problem is, Kelantan have none of that sorted out. And they need to do it, real soon.
