Francisco Mancebo of Skydive Dubai Pro Cycling Team proved himself a strong competitor after he successfully clinched the first stage of the 2015 Jelajah Malaysia (JM2015) cycling championship yesterday.
The 39 year-old managed to cross the finishing line with a time of 31 minutes and 55 seconds. Mancebo also claimed the yellow jersey and serves as the current overall leader, alongside bagging the blue jersey for sprint competition leader.
“To be able to win the first race is very good. Especially when crossing the finish line alone,” said the Spaniard as quoted from Bernama.
“Today’s race was so difficult and the weather was really hot too. My team managed a breakaway and we helped each other.”
“Our team may have a different strategy for tomorrow to control the race,” he said.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Nur Amirul Marzuki of the Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) managed to maintain his sheer skillset by dominating two climbing zones- Bukit Templer and Batu Arang, in the fourth category to garner a total of eight points to claim his win ahead of Pishgamant Giant Team’s Hamid Beikkhormizi, whom only managed to get two points.
“I’m glad that my team mates helped me to win the red jersey and will try to retain it until the last stage,” said Nur Amirul.
