National mixed doubles duo Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying have earned themselves an easy entry to the next round of the U.S Open Grand Prix Gold after defeating Japanese pair Kenta Kazuno and Ayane Kurihara yesterday.
The Malaysian top seeds outplayed their opponents in two straight sets, winning 21-18, 21-18 within 43 minutes to book their next meeting with Indonesia’s Fran Kurniawan and Komala Dewi today.
Liu Ying admitted that their gameplay was greatly improving and she has high hopes that they can deliver consistency throughout the tournament, despite their next match is being a tough one.
“We have defeated Kenta-Ayane before this. However, this time they were much more competitive and we had to give our all in order to win,” said Liu Ying as quoted from Arena Metro.
Joining to bandwagon through the second round of the tournament is men’s doubles’ Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong, whom outplayed the hosts, Phillip Chew and Sattawat Pongnairat 21-12, 21-12. The two will be facing Mexcio’s Job Castillo and Lino Munoz today.
However, Zulfadli and Zulhelmi Zulkiffli both were out of luck as they were obliterated by their opponents, Emil Holst of Denmark (16-21, 21-15, 19-21) and David Obernostere of Austria (18-21, 11-21) respectively.
