The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) is planning to revamp the Tun Razak Cup and turn it into a mainstream hockey tournament within Malaysia.
Despite being founded in 1963, the tournament has been receiving poor response over the last few years as most individuals are more focused on the Malaysian Hockey League.
President of MHC, Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal though believes that it’s time to restore the tournament’s dignity and bring it back to the spotlight.
“As you know, once upon a time the Tun Abdul Razak Cup was the country’s centre of attention and also the championship everyone looked forward to,” said Datuk Seri Subahan as quoted from Harian Metro.
“But now the reception is getting insipid. Maybe because there are already several other championships like the Malaysian Hockey League.”
“According to my plans, we would really like to bring back the fanfare of this championship.”
“For me, this championship needs to be the main tournament of the country.”
The 53rd Tun Razak Cup was secured by Melaka after they dethroned defending champions Perak, in the final.
