Young sprinting prodigy Badrul Hisham Abdul Manap is starting to feel the burden from his uprising popularity.
Before the teen started making the back pages of the newspaper, he was free to move anywhere and enjoy his life without the worries of media. However, things started to take a turn as Badrul became the newfound spotlight of the Malaysian sports scene.
The 18 year-old conceded that being the limelight of the media is not easy and his lifestyle has become different compared to before he went to Brunei.
Badrul stated achieving fame after he broke Watson Nyambek’s 17 year-old record in the 100m event last month in Brunei,
“I started feeling the buzz in Brunei when I broke the national record in the 100m event,” said Badrul as quoted from Harian Metro.
“A lot of people approached me to know get my comments. It affected my focus for the 200m and 4x100m event.”
“However, Alhamdulillah I managed to forget about the disruptions and I successfully claimed gold medals in both the events.”
“I understand that all this is the nation’s way of celebrating my success and a token of appreciation and congratulatory. I’m trying to understand the situation.”
