Juan Martin del Potro will only return to the ATP World Tour next year.
The 26 year old Argentine says he made the decision to delay his comeback, following a thorough analysis with his coaches and medical team over his left wrist surgery.
He admits that he’s worried of not being able to recover and regain his fitness on a competitive level in time to face the best players in the world, in the last two tournaments of the year.
Del Potro kicked off his 2014 campaign by nabbing the Sydney title before playing in three more tournaments, compiling a 7-3 match record for the season. He then underwent surgery to repair damaged ligaments on March 24th.
The Former World number 4 also had surgery on his right wrist four years ago, before making a stunning return and winning Comeback Player of the Year in the 2011 ATP World Tour Awards.
