Malaysia Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin has urged young athletes to live up to their expectations by excelling within when they get to senior levels as well.
Over the past few years, Malaysia has seen a wealth of young talents being produced, only for them to falter as their career progresses.
Khairy is determined to change this situation and said that he’ll be working closely with the National Sports Council to ensure that talents like Badrul Hisyam and Goh Jin Wei are transformed into world class senior athletes.
“We don’t want these young athletes – who are doing well now – to struggle in living up to their potential, years down the line.
“We need to lay out a suitable program for them, to ensure that these potential stars don’t fall behind and so that they stay focused on maximizing their potential.
“I’ll be working closely with the National Sports Council, National Institute of Sports as well as the Malaysian Olympic Council to help identify young athletes who are doing well, so we can groom them into excellent senior athletes,” he told Arena Metro.
