Several new faces will be given the chance to prove their worth, says Marcelo Serpa, the Head Coach of Malaysia’s futsal team.
From a squad of 16 players that finished third at the AFF Futsal Championships earlier this year, only 12 were retained in the latest squad, ahead of their upcoming warm-up games in Doha.
According to Serpa, he is looking to experiment with several new faces, ahead of next year’s AFC Futsal Championships.
“There are several AFF players who are not in the latest team – for example, Abu Haniffa, Shamsul Akmar and even Qaiser Heshaam. I’m looking to experiment with new players,” Marcelo said, according to a statement that was released by FAM.
“The same goes to our goalkeeper Mohd Noor Azrin, because I want to see how Mohd Afiq performs on the international arena.
“We’ve received invitations for two friendly matches from Qatar, as they are also preparing for the tournament. Qatar are improving at the moment, so it should be a good test,” he added.
The national squad will train in Shah Alam for the next two weeks, before departing to Qatar for the series of friendly games. They will be competing in the AFC Futsal Championships in Uzbekistan, next February.
