Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) Technical Director, Morten Frost Hansen has heaped praises on the performances of Lee Chong Wei as well as newly crowned World Junior Champion, Goh Jin Wei.
Chong Wei claimed his first ever China Open title over the weekend, after defeating Lin Dan in the semis as well as Chen Long in the final. Frost was visibly delighted with the milestone, and remains hopeful that it’s an indication of what Chong Wei is capable of doing in Rio, next year.
“Chong Wei still has it. I can see why he managed to beat Chen Long in the final,” he told Arena Metro.
“But we never know what will happen in Rio next year. I hope he can carry his current form and go all the way into the final.”
At the same time, Frost was equally ecstatic about Jin Wei’s groundbreaking achievement in Peru, as she broke every single expectation that was placed on her by claiming the gold medal at the World Junior Championships.
“We were only hoping for Jin Wei to bring back the bronze medal. But clearly she’s better than that, and she went on to win the junior title. We are extremely proud of her.
“From now on, we have to nurture these young talents and hope that she can be fantastic replacements for some of the senior players in our squad, who aren’t performing anymore,” he added.
