15 year-old Malaysian prodigy Goh Jin Wei claimed Malaysia’s first ever female gold medal at the World Junior Championships after she defeated compatriot Lee Ying Ying in the final.
Both women are close friends outside the court, and there was a sense of excitement within the country, before the final earlier today.
But Jin Wei, who has been in magnificent form throughout this year, continued to send shockwaves across the globe by cruising to a comfortable victory.
She won the first set 21-15, before going on to claim the second set by a margin that was almost similar, winning it 21-16.
Her win also ended Malaysia’s gold drought at the World Junior Championships, with Zulfadli Zulkifli’s win at the 2011 being Malaysia’s last triumph in the competition.
