Sergio Van Dijk open to Malaysian offers

Dutch-born Indonesian international, Sergio Van Dijk has revealed that he is open to considering offers from Malaysia for the 2016 MSL season.

The 33-year-old striker is in the final year of his contract with Thai Premier League club, Suphanburi believes that Malaysia could be the ideal place for his next destination.

“Malaysia seems like an interesting league on the up with some strong clubs and good players and now I can see it’s being privatised,” Van Dijk told ESPN FC.

“Because I speak fluent Bahasa Indonesia [which is similar to Bahasa Malaysia] and know some of the players and coaches in the MSL, it might be a good fit for me.”

“I am happy with Suphanburi and would like to stay here but things change quickly in football so it’s important to be aware of all the possible options,” he said. “I’ve been lucky enough to play in some good leagues and for some great clubs so we’ll have to see what happens.”

Van Dijk was the A-League Golden Boot winner in 2010 with 17 goals for Adelaide United before moving to Persib Bandung in Indonesia.

He was previously approached by Terengganu at the end of 2014 though it was a little too late as he had signed for Suphanburi by then.
