The Federation of International Motorcycling (FIM) has confirmed that the date of the 2016 Malaysian Grand Prix has been shifted from October 9 to October 30.
The shift in schedules now effective ends the hope of motorsport fans within the country, who were eager to witness two prestigious events take place in two consecutive weeks, considering the Malaysian Formula One GP is slated to take place on October 2.
Chief Executive Officer of Sepang International Circuit (SIC) Datuk Razlan Razali confirmed the announcement and claimed that the decision will only benefit the event.
“If we look back at the original schedule on Oct 2 and Oct 9, we would face problems in terms of logistical preparations.
“Normally, the penultimate round is very intense, just like this year and it certainly would attract spectators.
“I think, if we considered the various aspects involved in hosting the event, it would be far better for MotoGP to take place at the end of October,” he told Arena Metro.
