It was a tournament par excellence at this year’s Heineken Championship as amateur golfers from all over the country battled it out at the lush green fairways of Mines Resort and Golf Club. Three best gross scoring players managed to swing their way to the coveted prize – the opportunity to play at the prestigious CIMB Classic Pro-Am this month.
Back for the third year running, the Heineken Championship saw more than 120 amateur golfers from over 50 golf clubs across Malaysia went head to head to vie for the top three spots. George Wee Yoke Boon aced the game and led the pack with a gross score of 69, while Wong Tah Khua and Daeang A.R. came in second and third with a gross score of 71 and 73 respectively. The trio is set to tee-off at the star-studded CIMB Classic, Malaysia’s only golf tournament sanctioned by the PGA Tour, on 29 October 2015 at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), which will offer an international-level golfing experience.
“Heineken is proud of its inventive roots on offering new and world class experiences to consumers, and the coveted prize we are offering for the annual Heineken Championship is one of the many avenues to bring these experiences to live. We want Malaysian golfers to experience the game differently,” said Loh Ee Lin, Marketing Manager of Heineken Malaysia.
Champion George Wee, was thrilled and filled with excitement when asked about the opportunity to play at the CIMB Classic Pro Am, saying “I am honoured to be the champion again at the 3rd Heineken Championship. It has been a great experience to play at the tournament as it was professionally organised and the experience emulates an international golf tournament.”
The world’s No.1 international premium beer elevated the players’ golfing experience through with its very own Heineken Hospitality, while relishing the game during the Heineken Championship. Heineken surprised some of the players by delivering beer to them using drone technology, much to the delight of the players.
Marking its third consecutive partnership with CIMB as the tournament’s official beer partner, Heineken’s presence at this year’s CIMB Classic cements the brand’s reputation as the leader in the segment. Heineken’s collaboration with CIMB Classic adds on to its remarkable history of supporting premier sporting events around the world, including the Rugby World Cup and UEFA Champions League.
This year, Heineken continues to offer brand new perspective to consumers by remixing their experiences. Guests who will be attending the CIMB Classic from 29 October to 1 November 2015 will be treated to an experience unlike any other at Heineken’s hospitality marquee – The Green Experience, on the 14th Green, West Course. Guests are welcomed to enjoy the tournament with a grandstand view and a pint of Heineken Extra Cold. The marquee also offers an innovative experience with the Heineken headphones, which allow guests to not only tune in to music, but and also listen to the tournament’s commentaries. Using high-range radio frequency technology, guests are able to tune in to these even when they are on the greens. To top it off, Heineken will be hosting the Sundown Party, an after-event party on 31 October 2015 to celebrate its exclusive collaboration with CIMB Classic.
