Despite having lost their first three games, Perak FA’s Vjeran Simunic believe that they are still in contention of progressing to the quarter finals of this year’s Malaysia Cup.
The ex-Brunei DPMM boss is optimistic of his side’s chances, despite being dampened by poor performances as well as injuries to key players.
“We lost our captain, Mohd. Nasir (Basharuddin) for three months before facing Sarawak last week, which means he will not be able to play in the final two games.
“The same can be said about others, such as Muhd. Tuah Iskandar and Mohamad Idris Ahmad, while Wong Nam Kung is back in Korea due to family issues.”
“Nothing has been confirmed about these players, whether or not they’re able to face Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDt) this November 4th, but I do hope to get them fit again,” he told Utusan.
As for now, the Croatian only has three key players at his disposal; Thiago Junio De Aquino, Bobby Gonzales and Charles Souza Chad.
Simunic also added that Perak would have been one of the stronger team if not for their injuries.
“Luck has not been on our side. If we analyze each game, we had possession of the ball but were unable to create goals.”
Perak are in desperate mode after collecting just three points from four matches, thus far. They will next face JDT and Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM), knowing that only a win will keep them in the run.
