The Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium area is being prepared for the hosting of the 2018 ASEAN Games in Indonesia, according to Imam Nahrawi, Indonesia’s Youth and Sport Minister.
Nahrawi said Rp3 trillion has been allocated as the total budget for the Games, with main preparations focused on rebuilding aquatic facilities in Jakarta and homes for athletes.
“We will begin setting up in 2016 so that the stadium becomes a great place to practice sports, as well as shop and watch events.”
“We are also aiming to build a circuit, either formula one or grand prix circuit, so that people don’t have to trouble themselves by visiting Malaysia every time,” he added, as stated in Tempo.co.
Nahrawi continued that the design and construction plan will be presented to the public as soon as the master plan is done.
“If the preparation is successful, it will be very beneficial for the nation and the next generation, as the ASEAN Games becomes the starting point of revival in sports for Indonesia.”
