Nation’s badminton hero Lee Chong Wei has stated that he is all set to face rival Chen Long of China in the Denmark Open Super Series, which begins today.
According to the Malaysian, there is nothing to be afraid of as he has fully prepared himself to ensure that Chen Long is beaten this time around.
“I’m confident of myself. I don’t feel nervous or anything. I just want to enjoy the game peacefully, without any pressure,” he told Sinar Harian.
“I have moved on from the previous defeats and just want to build on my results compared to the last two tournaments I participated in.”
Reigning world number one shuttler Chen Long has been some kind of a nightmare for Chong Wei, especially after his win in the final of Jakarta World Championships last August.
Chong Wei then continued his worst form of his career, suffering early exits in the Japan and Korea Open, resulting in critics writing him off from qualifying for Rio Olympics next year.
Nevertheless, Chong Wei has kept his cool as he aims to focus on one match at a time for the time being.
“I only want to play with more confidence, in the process of improving my world rankings,” said the three-time Denmark Open champion.
WHAT DO WE THINK?
Early preparation will certainly be vital for Chong Wei to face Chen Long. Because unlike previous attempts, Chong Wei has been caught off guard as he recovers from his lengthy ban. To beat Chen Long, LCW have to be fully focused on his game play and strategies. Coach Hendrawan has also stated that he has prepared Chong Wei in a different way to face the China shuttler. After these two statements from Hendrawan and Chong Wei, it will be interesting to see their tactics against Chen Long, who has been getting better by the day.
