Malaysian squash queen Nicol David has gained the chance to exact revenge on Nouran Gohar after scheduled to meet the Egyptian youngster in the US Open second round tomorrow.
Defending champion Nicol faced no problems in defeating Hong Kong’s Joey Chan 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 in 33 minutes, setting up a date with Nouran, who defeated her country mate Kanzy El Dafrawy 11-5, 11-6, 11-7.
The last time these two met, 18 year-old Nouran pulled an upset by beating Nicol 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-9 at the quarter finals of China Open.
Nicol, 32, is now aiming to get one over Nouran and at the same time bring back the lost confidence in Malaysian fans.
“It is always fun to play in Philadelphia. Winning in straight sets is crucial as you gain the right momentum.”
“I’m glad I worked hard and performed well in beating Joey,” she told Utusan.
This will be Nicol’s fourth time participating in the US Open, having won it three times in a row prior to this year.
