Malaysian Open: Kyrgios sets up last eight duel against Karlovic

Nick Kyrgios is through to the quarter-finals of the ongoing Malaysian Open after sealing a comfortable straight sets win over Tatsuma Ito.

Playing in a country where he’s popularly known as ‘Jaguh Kampung’ due to his half-Malaysian roots, Kyrgios sealed the first set 6-3, before going on to increase his tempo to win the second one 6-2.

The win means he will now face Ivo Karlovic, who was forced to work hard before sealing a three-set win over N. Basilashvili, in the quarter-finals.

“I came out strongly and I was comfortable throughout the game,” Kyrgios said. “I know I will get chances against Karlovic and I have to take them.”

Meanwhile, Benjamin Becker secured his first quarter-final slot of this season, after ousting six seed Jeremy Chardy 5-7, 6-1, 7-5, in what was a close battle.
