Badminton Association of Malaysia’s Technical Director Morten Frost has revealed that he will be working on his strained relationship with Lee Chong Wei after their recent ‘bust-up’.
The Malaysian shuttler reportedly wanted a sparring partner by his side throughout the Japan Open and Korea Open – a request that was rejected by Frost.
Chong Wei appeared rather frustrated, and he was sent packing during the early stages of both tournaments, which further amplified the frustration. Frost though, is willing to work things out.
“Chong Wei and I have agreed that maybe we weren’t on the same page in Japan, but it’s not a very big issue either,” he told Harian Metro.
“We will keep trying and if things don’t work out, we will try new things. He accepts it as well. Right now, we’re focused on moving on.
“Based on experience, we need to fulfill his needs. And to be fair, I have been underestimating his recent circumstances as well,” he added.
Frost also confirmed that Chong Wei Feng will be competing at the Denmark and French Open next month, and will serve as LCW’s de-facto sparring partner as well.
WHAT DO WE THINK?
Frost and BAM have certainly dealt with the crisis in an amicable manner. There was an opportunity for this situation to be blown out of proportions, but Frost’s responses have been solid. Chong Wei’s time is running out and he needs to secure and Olympic slot sooner or later. At this point, it’ll be crucial for BAM to provide everything he needs (Has to be reasonable, of course!) and back him till the end. We know Chong Wei – he’s not an individual who makes decision out of the blue. He knows himself more than we do as well. So kudos to BAM to agreeing to send Chong Wei Feng with him to France and Denmark, next month.
