World champions Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan qualified for the quarter finals of the Korea Open, eliminating Malaysia’s top men doubles pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong in process.
Prior to that, the duo had defeated Thailand’s Puavaranukroh Dechapol-Kedren Kittinupong 21-13, 21-16.
And the second seeded Indonesians showed no signs of fatigue, dispatching the Malaysian pair 21-19 21-19, in a highly entertaining second round match.
On the other hand, V Shem and Wee Kiong’s loss will mean that Malaysia only have one representative left in the competition, in the form of independent men doubles shuttlers Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, who had earlier booked their spot in the quarters.
The Korea Open has been delivering many surprises so far, notably early defeats suffered by Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, and recently China’s Lin Dan, despite winning the Japan Open last week.
