The international cycling competition Tour de Siak has been cancelled due to the current haze that has been getting worse by day.
Chairman of Indonesian Cycling Federation (ISSI) Siak, Yan Pranajaya claimed that the federation was trying their best to successfully held the event, but the air quality have to be put into consideration as the tour was scheduled to start from September 15 to 20.
”Based on the information acquired from the Environment Agency, weather condition is still harmful due to haze,” he told Tempo.Co.
Siak regent Syamsuar also said: “The haze has prevented the ongoing of Tour de Siak, and due to health reasons we had to put an end to it. We also asked ISSI representatives to inform the participants from other countries regarding this matter.”
Thailand is the only country who has already landed in Siak, while other countries are still on their way.
“We urge the information to be spread as fast as it can be, before other countries come here,” Syamsuar added.
