Former Middlesbrough and Netherlands star George Boateng has officially declared his interest in being Malaysia’s next national team head coach.
The Football Association of Malaysia is currently on a hunt for a new individual to replace Dollah Salleh, who resigned after the humiliating 10-0 defeat to UAE recently.

A host of names, including ex-JDT head coach Bojan Hodak have been linked with the post, but George has also set his sights on making a return to Malaysia, having previously coached Kelantan FA in the east coast of the country.
“The national team is at the lowest with the past few results and it’s time to make a change and bring in a foreign coach with fresh ideas,” Boateng told ESPN FC
“The team needs rebuilding with new players for the next three to four years. It’s also all about creating the right atmosphere.”
While FAM are reportedly set to prioritize foreign candidates for the role, it remains to be seen if they would consider an individual who doesn’t possess an extensive coaching CV and struggled his first ever coaching job, with Kelantan FA.
Despite guiding Kelantan to a sixth place finish in 2014, George was eventually removed from his position merely five games into the season in 2015, with Azraai Khor being appointed as his replacement.
