FAM needs to buck up – Lim Teong Kim

The incident involving flares and fireworks at the Shah Alam Stadium on Tuesday isn’t something surprising, according to the Technical Director of the National Football Development Programme, Lim Teong Kim.

The former Malaysian international claimed that this is precisely what FAM would have to face, for their failure in producing high quality players for the national team to compete on the international stage.

“I’m not saying that what they (Ultras Malaya) did was right or wrong, but rather it’s the fact that FAM has to realize that they’ve not been producing results,” he told Harian Metro.

“Fans have their own rights because they do not come to the stadium to watch the game for free. They are angry because they love our football.

Lim then went on to add that he wouldn’t be surprised to see a repeat of the incident, should nothing change in the near future.

“Don’t blame it all on the fans. Instead, we should accept the fact that we are not good enough and we have to change everything including the youth development system so we never run out of good players.

“Right now, FAM is just way too busy with the Malaysian league, that they completely ignore youth development,” he added.
